The roof that is currently sitting atop your house is old, worn, and needs to be replaced. Now it’s time to pick out which materials you want to use, but also an even harder decision — picking out which color you want!
Dark v. Light
The first major decision you must make is whether to have a light colored roof or a dark one. There is no major benefit of having any specific color, but it has been stated that black shingles do absorb heat from the sunlight. As for all of the other colors it is completely up to your personal preference.
Before you go ahead and pick your favorite color, take your siding or brick color into consideration. In order to get the best overall look for your home, you’ll want to pick a color that compliments the color of your siding materials. If you’re not crazy about your home’s current exterior then choose a roof color that will compliment a future siding choice.
While you do want to compliment your home’s exterior with a specific roofing color, you don’t want to match it. A color that is exact, or even too close in hue, will make your home look flat and boring. However, you can match the roof’s color to exterior accessories such as window shutters.
Certain colors look different under different lighting. The roof color that you pick out could look like a different color at dawn, daytime, dusk, and nighttime. It’s important to take a sample of that color and inspect it under each type of lighting before you go ahead and purchase all of the material.
